A BURLEY-in-Wharfedale man, Mark Webb, 47, has successfully completed the Big Heart Bike Ride in support of the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

Mark, who works for Santander, joined over 60 cyclists for the 430 kilometres challenge, which took them across India over ten days, starting at the Taj Mahal and finishing in the famous Pink City of Jaipur. He used his pedal power to raise £3,900 to help fund the BHF’s life saving research.

Santander employees selected the BHF to be Santander’s chosen Charity of the Year for 2015. The partnership aims to raise £1 million to help the BHF in its fight against cardiovascular disease.

Mark said: “The trip was a really unique way to see the country; it was a great adventure where I made lots of friends, with the added benefit of getting fit through training. It was made all the better by knowing this challenge was raising money for a fantastic charity to help millions of people.

“I would recommend it to anyone.”

Louise Parkes, fundraising director at the BHF, said: “A massive thank you to Mark for taking on the Big Heart Bike Ride to help support us. We really appreciate the effort and determination Santander staff have shown in the fight against heart and circulatory disease.”

Cardiovascular disease is responsible for almost 160,000 deaths in the UK each year, an average of 440 people each day.You can still donate to Mark.
