PACKS of werewolves will be running riot above Otley this weekend.

Runners from clubs across the Wharfe Valley and beyond have signed up for the Night of the Werewolf race on Otley Chevin.

The run will involve the participants donning scary make-up to help set a new Guinness World Record – for the Largest Number of Werewolves in a Running Race.

Other supernatural creatures will be involved too as resident Mel Metcalfe, organiser of the Otley Zombie Apocalypse Run, is leading a team of marshals raising money for Otley Lions.

The original run was scheduled for Saturday, January 31, but had to be postponed due to the wintry weather, which caused the route to be affected by black ice.

Organiser Paul Shack is confident of better – but still testing – conditions this time.

He said: “Fortunately, the recent snow has missed the Chevin but it looks as though the course condition is going to be what all runners – and werewolves – love: gloriously muddy.

“Bring a towel.”

Runners, who are asked to dress up accordingly, can sign up for the race or find out more at chevinchiller.com.

People can also turn up to take part on the evening, but will be asked to make a £2 donation to Otley Lions on top of their entry fee.

The event is being supported by Leeds City Council’s parks team, and the prizes on offer will include signed prints by Commonwealth Games steeplechaser and acclaimed Otley artist, Racheal Bamford.
