AN eight-year-old girl has become a church’s youngest chorister.

Genevieve Pickett has been singing with St Oswald’s Church choir in Guiseley since she was seven – and now she has been inducted to become a fully-fledged member.

The youngster, whose dad David Pickett is church rector, sings alongside vocalists of all ages – including 91-year-old Margery Turner. Genevieve was welcomed into the choir by her father and by organist and choirmaster, Martin Baker.

Other young members include Maddy Podesta, 11, Neve Booth, 13, and Annie Morse,13, who were all recently presented with Royal Schools of Church Music light blue awards for their commitment to the choir.

Mr Pickett said his daughter must be one of the youngest choristers nationally.

He added: “She loves music and she plays piano and guitar. She is her dad’s daughter and wants to do something in the church and give something back.

“She absolutely loves it in the choir.”

He said noctogenarian Margery had sung with the choir for many years and was an “elder stateswoman”.
