SWIMMERS are staying away from Ilkley Pool because of poor standards of cleanliness, it has been claimed.
A regular swimmer at the Bradford Council-run pool in Denton Road claims local people are now going elsewhere to swim as the pool and changing rooms are not being kept clean enough.
The resident claims detritus such as hair and sticking plasters are often found on the bottom of the pool and on the floor in the changing rooms, and in one case, faeces in one of the toilets was not cleared up 30 minutes after a complaint had been made about it to staff. The changing rooms are not being checked and cleaned often enough throughout the day, he claimed.
A Bradford Council Sport and Leisure Service spokesman said: “We have not received any complaints about the changing rooms. Our changing areas are patrolled at regular intervals. If anyone sees anything that needs cleaning up between these checks, we would hope they report it to us immediately.”
