FRONT desk services at tourist information centres are important as cuts loom for Bradford District tourism services, says a councillor.
A “substantial” cut to tourism budgets proposed by Bradford Council in the next financial year is expected to impact on visitor information centres, although the council’s executive member for culture says it has yet to be decided which offices will be affected.
Cllr Anne Hawkesworth (Ind, Ilkley), believes Ilkley Visitor Information Centre is a critical part of the community.
She said: “I would say that the service appears top heavy. The most important part of the service is the chalk face.”
The council’s executive member for employment, skills and culture, Cllr Susan Hinchcliffe (Lab), said a transitional budget had been set aside for two years, giving the service time to work through a review.
