YOUNG cyclists in Otley are celebrating a successful 2014.

Five students from Prince Henry’s Grammar School were presented with trophies for wins achieved this year.

Year 9 pupils Megan Cullen and Sasha Kitching won the Under 13 Girls Team competition, while Joe Howcroft and Toby Kitching from Year 10, and Year 11 student Tom Cullen, won the Under 15 Boys event.

The competitions take points from all the National Championships that the British Schools Cycling Association promotes, including Cyclo Cross, Mountain Biking, Hill Climbing, Hard Track, Grass Track, Roller Racing and Circuit Racing.

Head of PE at Prince Henry’s, Sarah Grant, said: “It’s always great to see our students performing at the top of their game. Cycling has been growing in popularity at the school – with the inspiration provided by ex-pupil Lizzie Armitstead, and the visit by top cyclists ahead of the Otley Cycle Race last year. These students have done really well.”
