OTLEY’S MP will host a summit next week aimed at obtaining justice for victims of criminal driving.
The House of Commons meeting, hosted by Greg Mulholland (Lib Dem, Leeds North-West), is expected to be attended by 40 Parliamentarians, campaigners and members of victims’ families.
Mr Mulholland has been campaigning for tougher laws for years on behalf of local families, including the relatives of 16-year-old Otley boy Jamie Still.
Jamie died in December, 2010 after being hit by a speeding drunk driver.
Jamie’s sister Rebecca Still, who started an online petition demanding a change in the law after her brother’s death, and his stepfather Peter Strong, will be among those attending Monday’s summit.
Mr Mulholland said: “Criminal driving is an issue that costs too many lives across the country.
“Victims and their families deserve justice and the summit will be an opportunity for Parliamentarians to hear directly from victims’ families and campaigners about what more government needs to do.”
