ROBBERS armed with what is thought to have been a crowbar got away with cash when they struck at Ilkley's Morrisons store just before closing time on Saturday night.

One of the balaclava-clad men walked into the Morrisons M Local store on Bolton Bridge Road at about 10.53pm and demanded money from the tills, while the other man stood at the door to the shop with the weapon.

They stole £100, and are believed to have escaped on foot along a footpath leading past Ilkley Bowling Club and the Clarke Foley Centre, towards Cunliffe Road.

Police have released descriptions of two suspects. Both were believed to be white.

One was described as stocky, about 6ft tall, possibly in his 30s, and was wearing a blue hooded top, black trousers, a black balaclava and black gloves. He was said to have white or blonde eyebrows.

The other man was about 6ft 4in tall, of very stocky build, although thought to be in his 30s, and was wearing a long sleeved waist length khaki jacket, dark trousers and a black balaclava.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said the attack was not being linked to a recent robbery at a filling station convenience store in Ben Rhydding.

Anyone with information on the robbers is asked to contact police by calling 101 or the Crimestoppers line on (0800) 555111.
