A WHARFEDALE community centre could be closed as part of a cost-cutting review by Leeds City Council.
Weston Lane Community Centre, in Otley, is one of ten facilities the authority has named as being in need of short-term “action”.
The council’s executive board was due to be asked yesterday to approve a three-month public consultation about each of the centres.
The options being considered, in a bid to save £250,000, could see the buildings host new activities to bring in more income, transferred over to community organisations, or closed.
The council’s report describes Weston Lane as a “poor quality facility which offers little benefit to the community”, but Councillor Colin Campbell (Lib Dem, Otley & Yeadon) said: “The Weston estate is an area with a number of issues and this building could be an asset to the community and a resource for young people.
“Instead, Leeds has once again decided to sell Otley short.”
