PUPILS at Ben Rhydding Primary School started their commemorations of the centenary of the First World War last week.
Various activities have been planned for the whole school including a visit to Ilkley Memorial Gardens and a production by a theatre group showing what life was like during the war, both at home and on the front line.
Artefacts from children’s families were brought into school to share and learn from, and lots more research about the war has taken place.
Inspired by the Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red at the Tower of London, all pupils made their own poppy to plant in the school playground. Each flower had the name of a fallen soldier written on the back.
The children gathered for an assembly to observe the two minutes silence and watch a short war film.
The pupils pictured brought war artefacts into school to help with the learning.
