A GRANT of £5,000 will buy iPads to help get older people at an Ilkley day centre get involved in creative activities.

Abbeyfield Ilkley Society was presented with the funding by bank Santander towards its iPad Engage project, to train carers of vulnerable older people at the Abbeyfield Grove House Day Centre in Ilkley.

The new technology and the range of apps available will also enable them to develop new ideas and approaches to deliver person-centred care.

The donation was provided by the Santander Foundation, which offers grants to UK-registered charities for projects that help disadvantaged people in local communities.

Day Centre Manager at Abbeyfield Grove House, Alice Wild, said: “We are delighted to receive this donation from the Santander Foundation. This valuable and exciting project continues our efforts to enhance the quality of life for older people.’’ Linda Harris, who is branch Manager at Santander’s Ilkley branch, said: “The Santander Foundation makes hundreds of donations every year to good causes throughout the UK.

"Our branch is committed to playing a key part in the community and we are delighted to be supporting Abbeyfield Ilkley Society, and hope the donation makes a real difference to local people.”
