Thousands of pounds have been raised for Macmillan Cancer Support, thanks to the efforts of a woman who was helped by the charity.
Aileen Pawley, who is in remission from aggressive skin cancer, organised a fund-raising event in Yeadon to thank Macmillan for the support it gave her.
She held a cake stall, a large tombola and a raffle, along with friends Karen Coburn and Joanne Holmes, and the with the help of her mum, Janice Waite, who is also a Macmillan fundraiser.
Aileen, 40, from Guiseley, was also supported by local businesses from the surrounding area, including Yeadon, Ilkley and Otley
She said: "We raised a total of £1892.71 which Santander will double for us. We also have £350 still to come from Sky and a donation from Leeds Rhinos from a ball and football shirt they are auctioning for us. So a great success.
"We are also holding a treasure hunt on the October 11 from the Stone Trough in Rawdon and a Singles Party at Coopers on the November 29. All proceeds to go to Macmillan."
As well as fighting the disease herself Aileen lost both her dad and her aunt to cancer this year. She described Macmillan as a wonderful charity and said she felt it was important to give something back.
