LABOUR's local Parliamentary candidate has been busy attending events and meeting residents in Yeadon.

Councillor Alex Sobel (Lab, Moortown) teamed up with the Police and Crime Commissioner for West Yorkshire, Mark Burns-Williamson OBE, during the summer for a visit to the Henshaw and Coppice Wood areas.

He had invited Mr Burns-Williamson out to meet residents after hearing their concerns about anti-social behaviour and the lack of local summer holiday youth activities.

Coun Sobel, who will be trying to replace Liberal Democrat Greg Mulholland as the Leeds North West constituency's MP at the next General Election, also joined Yeadon householder Ray Jones for part of the People's March for the NHS when it reached Leeds in August.

He said: "The march is highlighting how the coalition Government is starving the NHS of funds and privatising it by stealth.

"Labour will repeal David Cameron’s NHS changes that put private profit before patients."

The pair took part in the Yeadon Cricket Club Family Fun Day on August Bank Holiday Saturday, too, which raised funds for the Fire Brigades Benevolent Fund and Yeadon Food Bank.

Coun Sobel plans to hold a coffee morning in Yeadon in early October to hear more from residents about how the cost of living and service cuts are affecting them.
