CANINES and their humans across Yorkshire are being asked to join a huge fundraising effort in September aid of visually impaired people.

Guide Dogs is calling on all dog owners to make their pet a hero for the day by taking part in Dogs Unite - a sponsored dog walk and fun day out which will raise funds to support more life-changing guide dogs for blind and partially sighted people.

Every doggy hero taking part will receive their own goody bag and a special tag to wear proudly on their collar, as well as a hero cape.

The second event on Sunday September 21 is at the Cavendish Pavilion at Bolton Abbey.

As well as access to the grounds attractions on the day will include Guide Dogs demonstrations, gift and refreshment stalls, and the Guide Dog Sensory unit where you can experience what it is like to be visually impaired.

Dogs Unite is all about dogs working together in a series of sponsored walks to help raise much needed funds to support the work Guide Dogs do every day in creating partnerships that make a life-changing difference for those with sight loss.

Guide Dogs Leeds Mobility Team fundraiser, Donna Sayce, said: “The walks are not especially challenging and will make a huge difference to the lives of some blind and partially sighted people. It's an easy fundraiser and anyone can take part simply by walking their dog."

She added: "Guide Dogs receives no government funding, and is entirely dependant on public donations and sponsorship events such as this, we hope to get as many people as possible to join us on both days so that we can keep making that difference.”

Registration for the event starts at 10am. The registration fee is £7.
