WHARFEDALE was well represented asThe Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL) celebrated a record number of students achieving the coveted A* grade in three or more subjects.

Twenty students in the year group gained at least three A-levels at the top grade this year.

The star performer from the area is Trina Seal, from Bramhope, who has four A* grades and secured her place at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, to read Natural Sciences.

She said: “It’s been a nervous wait for the results, but I’ve been on the school’s choir tour to Prague which helped to take my mind off it. I’m so looking forward to Cambridge – natural sciences is a unique course that allows in depth study of a good mixture of science topics.”

Celebrating triple A* grades are Will Foster, from Rawdon, who added an extra A to his three A*s, together with Philippa West, from Stainburn, and Matthew Li, from Horsforth. Will Bates of Farnley, Jack Harrison, from Menston, Georgina Mordue, from Pool in Wharfedale, Philip Robinson, from Lindley, and Emma Solyom, from Bramhope, all achieved at least three A-levels at A* or A.

Three will be heading to Oxford University. Georgina will study Materials Science at Trinity College, Matthew will read Politics, Philosophy and Economics at Balliol, while Jack Harrison is looking forward to taking up his place at Pembroke College to read Economics and Management.

He said: "I loved it at Oxford, despite being there for three days of interviews! It was my first choice all along, and school prepared us really well for the selection process, I knew what had to be done at all stages.”

GSAL principal, Mike Gibbons, said: “We are very proud of what our students have achieved which will enable them to study at the universities of their choice. For them, today is the culmination of years of hard work and we would also like to express our thanks to parents and staff for all their support and guidance.”
