A FORMER Royal Philharmonic orchestra manager will call on Ilkley to celebrate Yorkshire Day tomorrow (August 1) in her first official engagement as the new Ilkley town crier.

Isabel Hogan, who has lived in Ilkley since 2008, but is originally from London, is looking forward to giving her first call of 'oyez' to the town at the celebrations, after being appointed by Ilkley Parish Council last week.

She has a voice which, when needed, will be able to wake even Mary Jane from her slumbers.

This powerful shout was honed and trained by her work as the orchestral manager for The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

"If you want to make an orchestra go quiet, you have to be able to shout" she said.

"My work on the stage manager's teams at The Redgrave Theatre and The Royal Court Theatre also taught me how to make myself heard."

Ms Hogan stopped working in the arts following the birth of her daughter but recently took up a post at the Down Syndrome Training and Support Service in Bingley.

She will also be working from time to time as Ilkley's Town Crier, following in the footsteps of Chris Richards who retired at the end of 2013, attending various functions throughout the year.

Yorkshire Day to be celebrated in the now traditional Ilkley way. However, the event is not taking place at the Town Hall this year because the building is not now fully manned and the adjacent Kings Hall complex is closed for refurbishment.

The people of Ilkley will meet up at 11.30am at the Bandstand on the Grove. Ilkley's new Town Crier will make the official Yorkshire Declaration at precisely 11.39am.
