A local super-mum was given a well-earned pampering at an Ilkley Hair and Beauty Boutique after being nominated for an award by her three children.
Emma Smeaton, 41, of Burley-in-Wharfedale, won a Laura Mercier make-over and blow-dry at the No. 1 Hair & Beauty Boutique, in Crescent Courtyard, Ilkley.
The mum-of-three is the finance director of two businesses, looks after her children Ned, five, Isabel, seven, and Sophie, ten, who has Type 1 diabetes, requiring 24-hour monitoring and medical care, takes care of her own mother, raises thousands of pounds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and volunteers at the Clarke Foley Centre for the over-50s every week.
However, Emma is modest about what she manages to fit into her busy schedule. “I was a bit embarrassed to be nominated but very pleased mostly,” she said. “You just think you’re getting on with your normal life, and then to have your children want to nominate you for something like this is very sweet. They sat down and composed a letter and it was really quite touching.”
She was delighted with the prize and received her make-over before an exclusive 50th birthday party at Ripley Castle.
“This is lovely, really, really nice – I’m going out for a night which is great in itself but this is an extra treat,” she said. “I don’t normally have too much time for ‘me’ so it’s very special.”
Emma’s husband Peter, 55, who helped the children compose their nomination, said: “On reflection the children are right – she is a Super Mum in both senses and I must make sure I don’t forget it.
“Thanks for giving me the opportunity to remember what a great woman I married.”
No. 1 Hair & Beauty Boutique held the competition to celebrate the launch of their Laura Mercier range.
Emma will also be invited back to No. 1 to select £100 of Laura Mercier Cosmetics from the makeover prescription which she received.
Annie Haggas, owner of No. 1 Hair & Beauty Boutique, said: “We wanted to give a local super mum a real treat and Emma is an incredibly deserving winner. We’re thrilled to be able to give her this make-over, she looked positively flawless."
