An Ilkley-based photographer and food writer took third place in a prestigious international competition with her snap of a gaggle of local geese.
Joan Ransley, who is also an honorary lecturer in nutrition at Leeds University, was highly placed in the Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year Competition, held at the Mall Gallery, London.
The photograph, Let's Scarper, shows geese running away into the woods at Lower Austby. It was taken in October as a subject for a Christmas card. The overall winner of the competition, Tessa Bunnie is also from Yorkshire.
The Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year Awards honour the best in food photography – recipe shots, pictures of ingredients and striking images of people around the world making and producing the food we love to eat.
Judge Jay Rayner said: “What this year’s images represented was the kind of appetite that makes a hungry man like me happy.”
There were more than 6,000 entries to the 2014 awards, so competition was tough. The judges included David Loftus, Jamie Oliver's photographer, Yotam Ottolenghi and Julia Bradbury.
