A cafe near Otley has launched its year of fundraising for Yorkshire Cancer Research by holding a quiz.

Cock Pit Farm Tea Rooms, at Weston, raised £280 from the event while sales of homemade greetings cards have brought the total to date to £330.

Since opening in 2009 the business, its staff and customers have raised more than £15,000 for a different charity each year – with the previous beneficiaries being Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Macmillan Cancer Support, St George’s Crypt and Behind Closed Doors.

Owner Sue Sansbury said: “We run a very small tea room and see the same faces day in and day out.

“We get to know our customers very well. Recently we lost two regular and popular customers to cancer, so we decided to raise money for Yorkshire Cancer Research this year.”

As well as holding further quizzes during the year ahead, the Cock Pit is also arranging a dog show for Saturday, June 21.

Sue added: “The dog show will be a great family day out with lots of fun things to do.

“We’re looking for dog owners interested in entering their furry friends into a variety of exciting classes, such as Dog Who Looks the Most Like Its Owner and Dog with the Waggiest Tail.

“We’re also hoping to include an agility course.”
