Adam gets walking the length of Britain

Former Otley Scout Adam Dawson has begun an arduous length-of-Britain fundraising challenge.

Adam, as reported in January, is walking from the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall to Dunnet Head, at the northern tip of Scotland.

The 1,450 mile sponsored trek will raise money for the Scouting Association Hardship Fun, which provides financial help to enable Scouts and Guides to attend the World Scout Jamboree.

Both of Adam's sons have attended previous Jamborees but with the 2015 event taking place in Japan he was certain the travel costs would be prohibitive to some - and decided to raise what he could to help.

His determination to make a difference was further bolstered after reading a Wharfedale & Aireborough Observer story about two Otley Scouts who are fundraising to make the Japan trip.

Setting off on from the Lizard Peninsula on March 24, he is now only into the second week of his challenge but has already raised thousands for the cause.

Posting on the daily blog he is writing for the walk, http://adamswalk.com/blog/, he said: "Thank you all very much for the support you’ve shown me in the run up to my long walk north. Thanks to your collective generosity, I have raised more than £5,000 already towards the Scouts' Hardship Fund, and been kindly provided with lots of the kit that I’ll need to keep me going along the way.”

Looking ahead to the 'essentials' of his long trek, he added: "All I have to do is visit Lizard, Land’s End, Snowdon, Wigan, Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis, John O’Groats and Dunnet Head."
