Volunteers are being sought to help organise an annual event which has raised more than £65,000 for good causes.

Rawdon Fun Day desperately needs helpers to lend a hand organising the event or to assist on the day.

Last year the charity Bethany’s Smile, which raises money to help sick children, was one of those to benefit from the event.

Yvonne Hare, from the charity, said: “With a committee of around six people planning this enormous event, volunteers are extremely important for the day to be able to go ahead. The committee even take a week of their annual holiday entitlement each year to organise the fun day which is true dedication to raising funds for charity.

“The charities to be supported this year are once again Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Bethany’s Smile. However, in addition to these two, this year the committee are planning to hold a local causes fund, and would be happy to receive nominations for local causes which need financial help for next year.”

The Fun Day will be held on Saturday, June 7. in Redbeck Field. The day will start at 11am and arena entertainment will end at 6pm with a welly wanging competition. From 6.30-8.30pm there will be comedians in the bar.

The event will also include birds of prey, fire stunts, a dog display and show, dance, majorettes, a visit from the air ambulance, fire engines, and the neighbourhood policing team. Other attractions include fairground rides, bouncy castles, a champagne and Pimms tent with swing bands, donkey rides and a mini farmers market.

So far the fun day has raised more than £65,000 for good causes – last year alone it raised more than £15,755.

This year’s event will include a Scarecrow Festival with the theme of Super Heroes. People are being asked to create and display scarecrows in their gardens. These will then be brought to the Redbeck Field prior to the fun day for judging. Visit rawdonfunday.co.uk for further information about the event.
