Plans to extend a snack kiosk close to the Cow and Calf Rocks landmark in Ilkley and create an indoor seating area are recommended for refusal by planners next week.

Cafe owner Tony Falconi is seeking planning permission for a single-storey extension to the building, off Hangingstone Road.

He previously gained permission to convert a former Yorkshire Water building into the kiosk – but a previous plan to demolish the building and construct a cafe and visitor centre was turned down by Bradford Council in 2011.

The new planning application is due to go before Bradford Council’s Keighley and Shipley Area Planning Panel on Wednesday.

Planning officers have recommended that councillors refuse planning permission.

In a report prepared for the meeting, they acknowledged the proposal would help a small enterprise expand and improve its operation, but said the significant expansion of the building would be out of proportion.

They concluded the benefits from the proposal would not mitigate the visual harm in the sensitive location.

Ilkley Parish Council supported the proposal and asked that it should go before the Area Planning Panel if recommended for refusal.
