A melting pot of experiences across the world has inspired Judi Rich’s exhibition in Keighley this month.

And with all these international influences, it’s no wonder the Ilkley artist has entitled her exhibition Diversity.

The display in the café at Central Hall in Alice Street is Judi’s first solo exhibition.

Judi completed a diploma in Art and Design at Craven College, Skipton, in 2008.

Since then, she has focused on developing her painting skills in terms of representational imagery.

Judi attended workshops and courses run by artists working in a variety of media and styles, also visiting exhibitions at home and abroad. She said that from this melting pot of experience she had derived her own personal choice of medium and style.

Judi said: “My first love is portraiture in oils or pastels focusing totally on the face.

“I try to capture the character of the model, working in a variety of styles such as sepia, vivid colour and with a limited palette.”

Judi’s recent work has centred on nature and animals, mainly in pastels, which she feels are an understated medium.

She says pastels allow the flexibility of sketching, detailed drawing and painting, also giving a clarity and vibrancy of colour.

At Central Hall, Judi is also displaying semi-abstract pieces that she created as a reaction to her surroundings and experiences.

She added: “I am passionate about my work to the degree that I am totally focused in the moment.

“When I finally finish for the day, I feel exhausted.”

Most of Judi’s work at the exhibition will be for sale, along with prints and cards of her work.

Diversity runs until March 26. Central Hall is open daily from 9am to 4pm, with the café open until 4pm. Admission is free.
