Addingham Civic Society has warned villagers not to send petitions or comment on potential housing sites when they respond to Bradford Council’s Local Plan consultation.

The society is advising residents opposing the 200-home housebuilding target set out in the draft Core Strategy of the Local Plan to make sure they read all guidance before making their response to the plan.

Although the Council originally suggested 400 homes should be built in Addingham in a previous draft of the Core Strategy, Addingham Civic Society says 200 is still too many.

In its newsletter, it says: “Building houses here will not help to meet the needs that the Council has identified and it will deliver housing that is in what is probably the most environmentally sensitive place in the district.”

The society is advising people who formally comment on the strategy to point out contradictions, highlight where policies conflict, show where the numbers do not add up and indicate what has been missed out of the strategy.

The group is also offering to help and advice to residents who are struggling to make their comments in the six-week consultation.
