Ilkley and District Good Neighbours is looking for volunteers to help it provide services to the elderly and isolated people locally.

The charity says it is always seeking volunteers to continue running services such as its befriending and ShopAssist schemes.

The Good Neighbours has been running a befriending scheme since 2005, currently funded by Bradford Council’s Health and Well Being Team.

It is hoped the team will continue to support the scheme through the next financial year.

The Good Neighbours has a team of trained and enthusiastic volunteers which regularly visits elderly and isolated people in their own homes.

Organisers say the feedback they receive, both from clients and volunteers, is heart-warming.

The charity also operates a shopping service for older people.

Managed by a volunteer co-ordinator, ShopAssist volunteers collect older people from their own homes on a regular basis and take them to a local supermarket.

In addition to helping clients maintain their independence by taking them out regularly, the feedback leads the organisation to believe that the scheme reduces social isolation and loneliness.
