A long-established Ilkley cycling business has opened the doors of its showroom and cafe in landmark business premises on the edge of Ilkley town centre.

Ilkley Cycles – formerly known as JD Cycles – has moved to its new base at the former Nidd Vale car showroom, once Glover’s Garage, on Skipton Road.

The showroom and garage closed on December 11, and the Ilkley cycle retailer and bike workshop has taken on the lease.

The prime site will put the business in the front row when the Grand Depart of the Tour de France hurtles along Skipton Road this July.

Business owner, Adam Evans, said: “We’re terrifically excited. It’s been two years in the planning.”

The showroom interior has been converted in a modern bicycle showroom, selling a large range of mountain bikes and road bikes, and associated equipment.

The first floor of the building now houses a bicycle workshop, where about 100 bikes a week will be repaired.

The new store also has its own cafe, which has been named The Fuel Station.

Staff say the store has already been attracting interest, both from keen cyclists and other visitors.

An opening celebration is expected to take place later this month.

The store is also hoping to set up a special viewing platform for guests on Tour de France race day.
