A series of free band concerts will entertain park visitors in Otley and Yeadon this summer.

Leeds City Council has announced that Summer Bands in the Park, which includes performances at Wharfemeadows Park, Otley and Tarnfield Park, Yeadon, is returning.

In Yeadon park-goers will be able to hear the Yorkshire Imperial Urquhart Travel Band in action on Sunday, June 1, and the Yorkshire Bavarian Oompah Band on Sunday, July 13.

Yorkshire Brass Quintet, meanwhile, will play in Wharfemeadows Park on Sunday, June 29, with Summerbridge and Dacre Silver Band set to perform on Sunday, July 27.

The news has been welcomed by Otley and Yeadon’s three – Liberal Democrat – ward councillors.

Councillor Ryk Downes said: “We know how much residents and visitors appreciate being able to hear a really good brass band.

“This year residents are in for a treat, with a chance to experience just about every variation on the theme of brass.”

Councillor Colin Campbell added: “We are urging everyone to put the dates in their diary and come down to their local park to enjoy an afternoon of great music.”

The concerts, which all take place between 2.30pm and 4.30pm, are being subsidised by a grant from the North West (Outer) Area Committee.
