A three-day ‘big breakfast’ in Blubberhouses has raised a record-breaking amount for charity.

Scaife Hall Farm bed and breakfast held Yorkshire’s annual Farmhouse Big Breakfast fundraiser between January 28 and 30.

Chris and Christine Ryder, who run the award-winning business, served up more than 190 breakfasts over the three days – generating £7,708 for farming charity the Addington Fund.

That is the highest total the couple, who have held two previous big breakfasts – one for the Addington Fund and one for Make A Wish Foundation – have raised to date.

Christine said: “We had hoped to break through the £10,000 barrier, with total proceeds from our three big breakfasts. But with the latest one attracting matched funding from our main sponsor, Barclays, we have now raised well over £15,000 including more than £12,000 for the Addington Fund, which is a fantastic achievement.

“We served up 193 meals at six sittings over the three days. It proved an incredible success, made possible through the tremendous support we received from sponsors, helpers and big breakfasters themselves, who came from near and far.”

Addington Fund director Ian Bell added: “Every penny raised will be used to support Yorkshire farming families and, through our housing initiative, will continue to help more families again in their future.

“A huge thank-you to so many people for supporting us in so many ways.”

Representatives from the Yorkshire & North East Agricultural Division of Barclays, which has supported the two Addington fundraisers, helped out at this year’s event.

The bank’s Darlington-based agricultural area manager, John Pinches, said: “The Addington Fund provides fantastic support to the farming community and we were delighted to take part and help raise funds for this worthy cause.”

Scaife Hall Farm, winner of the 2011/12 Best Yorkshire Breakfast category in the Deliciouslyorkshire Awards, used predominantly local produce for its big breakfast menu.
