Young singers, bands, poets and comedians are being sought to perform at a Valentine’s Day event in Otley.

Twelve to 17-year-olds who write their own material are invited to put themselves forward for a slot at the Friday, February 14, Hearts Club Night at Otley Courthouse.

Staged by Ilkley Literature Festival in association with Skipton Building Society, and in collaboration with the Courthouse, the 7.30pm to 10pm evening will feature live performances, along with a juice bar and disco.

Ilkley Literature Festival director Rachel Feldberg said: “Our club nights always have a great atmosphere and are the perfect opportunity for young performers wanting to share their work.

“Many of the bands who started performing at our club nights have gone on to take part in national competitions and perform at festivals.

“We know there are lots of talented young people in the area and are keen for new groups to get involved.”

The competition judge will be looking out for promising artists while the young audience will also be asked to vote for their favourite performance, with the winners of both categories receiving a special prize.

Anyone interested in performing should contact the organisers on (01943) 601210, e-mail info@ilkleyliteraturefestival.org.uk, to book a slot. Local teenagers, meanwhile, are encouraged to come along and cheer on their favourite acts. Audience tickets cost £5 and are available from Otley Courthouse, telephone (01943) 467466 or visit otleycourthouse.org.uk .
