Two Otley teenagers will represent West Yorkshire at next year’s World Scout Jamboree in Japan.

Otley Parish Scouts Tom Paxton and Megan Barker had to go through an intense selection process to secure their place at the prestigious gathering.

The World Scout Jamboree is held every four years at locations around the globe, and for Explorer Scout Tom and Scout Megan represents the opportunity of a lifetime.

The pair will join some 50,000 other Scouts, all aged between 14 and 17, from across the world at the event in Kirara-hama next summer where they are looking forward to learing new skills.

First, though, they need to each raise £3,400 to fund the trip. Otley Parish Scouts are arranging a number of events to support their fundraising, including a 24- hour table tennis marathon and a Harry Potter film night.

Anyone wishing to support their efforts should send an e-mail to otleyparishscouts@hotmail.co.uk.
