A Bramhope student has captained her school’s hockey team to the final of a prestigious national competition.

Millie Jeavons is captain of the under 16 hockey team at The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL). She and her team mates have secured a place in the national finals of the England Hockey National Schools Championships for Girls – the first time their school has progressed this far.

The team also includes fellow Bramhope students Sophie Summersgill, Hannah Gorman and Aisling Madden, and Imogen Hall from Horsforth.

GSAL’s under 14 hockey team will join the under 16s at the finals. Victory in the play-offs places the teams in the top eight teams nationally in each age group, and they will battle it out for the national title at the finals in February at Cannock Hockey Club.

GSAL’s head of hockey Lyndsay Bromby said: “Having coached both groups since they were aged 10 or 11, I’ve been so proud of their effort and performances throughout.

“The players have fully committed to all the hard work and extra sessions and really want to get out there and play.”
