Local authority run leisure centres and swimming pools in Wharfedale, Aireborough and Horsforth will not be increasing prices in January.

Leeds City Council has announced a price freeze for places like Guiseley’s Aireborough Leisure Centre and Otley’s Chippindale Swimming Pool in a bid to encourage more people to get active in 2014.

Executive member for leisure and skills, Councillor Lucinda Yeadon (Lab, Kirkstall), said: “Traditionally, we know that January is one of the busiest times for the city’s leisure centres, with more and more people wanting to come and get fit and active after the Christmas break.

“But we also know that these are tough times for people living in Leeds and everyone is feeling the pinch.”

“That’s why we have decided to freeze the price of using our gyms, pools and classes in January.”

The council will also continue to offer its Leeds Let’s Get Active programme in 2014 – where one hour of each day at all of its leisure centres is made available for free gym or swimming sessions. For more details, visit leedsletsgetactive.co.uk.
