A 15-year-old teenager who suffered severe eczema and used to miss months off school at a time has raised £2,250 for a hospital unit to thank them for their care.

Sam Forrest attends St Luke’s dermatology unit in Bradford where doctors and nurses have now successfully got his condition under control. In the past, the Beckfoot Grammar School pupil received UVB treatment three times a week and at his worst was unable to play his guitar as the skin on his fingertips was so sore.

Sam’s parents, Dave Forrest and Lindsay Dobby, who run Strasse, an independent Porsche specialist in Leeds, host an annual charity golf day at Otley Golf Club and this year’s event saw 56 golfers dig deep for the good cause.

The day, which was co-organised by Adam and Nicola Norris of K M Norris Builders, Ilkley, also included a charity dinner.

Otley Golf Club also provided prizes alongside other contributors to the family-run event.

Last week Sam and his parents returned to the St Luke’s dermatology unit to say thank you and handed a cheque to consultant dermatologist Professor Andrew Wright.

Mum Lindsay, of Shipley, said: “Over the past four years St Luke’s dermatology unit has turned life around for Sam and our whole family by keeping his condition under control and acting swiftly if it begins to lapse at any time.

“The dermatology unit, and in particular consultant Professor Wright, have been nothing less than a lifeline for us, not only in terms of the medical treatment – which has been first class – but also in terms of understanding the effects skin conditions can have on lives. It has given us confidence that all is not lost and, most importantly, that positive results can be achieved so we cannot overestimate their work.

“Sam’s condition is currently excellent with only a couple of blips this year which have been swiftly brought under control.

“The eczema won’t go away but we are confident that any difficulties we encounter can be quickly discussed with Professor Wright and the team.”
