Fairground rides, Christmas goodies and a traction engine were among the attractions in Burley-in-Wharfedale on Saturday as the village’s festive lights were switched on.

The Burley-in-Wharfedale Christmas lights were switched on by Stray FM radio presenter Liam Scott, in a ceremony outside Burley Grange, Main Street.

The crowds were entertained by choirs, Father Christmas, Christmas Carols and fairground rides.

There was a Victorian traction engine, provided by Jake Wright, giving rides and a Christmas Market, with over 30 stalls selling a variety of Christmas treats.

Organisers once again declared the event a fantastic success, well supported by villagers and visitors alike.

They urged Wharfedale people who have not yet seen Burley’s lights to visit the village and look at the display, which is this year bigger.

They thanked the local businesses who support Tom Sumner and his band of volunteers who have been busy for several weeks now often taking time off work to help put the many of the illuminations up.
