The mayors of Leeds and Otley teamed up last weekend to unveil the new name of the town's bypass.

The road has been renamed Rotary Way in recognition of the work local Rotarians have been doing to keep this stretch of the A660 looking attractive.

A ceremony to reveal the new road sign took place on Sunday, November 24, when the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Thomas Murray (Lab, Garforth & Swillington), and Otley Town Mayor Councillor Pam Gill (Lab, Manor) were among the guests.

They joined the presidents of the Rotary Club of Otley Chevin and the Rotary Club of Otley, Brendan Cunningham and Peter Heald respectively, along with Otley in Bloom chairman David Bellerby.

Also attending were Rotary District governor Mark Stuart-Clarke, Lady Mayoress Edna Murray and Graham Manning, from Leeds City Council's highways department.

It was the Rotary Club of Otley Chevin's environment officer, Bryan Kitching, who asked the city council in the summer if the road might be renamed.

The club, working with Otley in Bloom, has carried out regular mass litter-picking and bulb-planting sessions alongside the bypass in recent years.
