Bus company First brings in changes to X84 Otley and Ilkley service
Changes were this week brought in on a key bus service which connects Otley and Ilkley with Leeds and Skipton.
Bus operator First announced last Thursday it was planning a number of service improvements on the X84 bus, to meet the needs of its customers – including additional and extended journeys.
The company says the changes are based on feedback from customers who took part in a public consultation exercise earlier this year.
The alterations are of benefit to many passengers, says First, particularly students travelling to the Aireville Campus of Craven College.
First recently altered its tickets structure to allow its West Yorkshire tickets to be used on the full X84 route from Leeds to Skipton.
The service changes include: a new 6.20am bus from Otley to Leeds, an extension of the 7.10am from Leeds to Skipton, taking in Aireville Campus of Craven College; the 7.55am from Leeds with terminate at Ilkley; and a new journey, from Ilkley to Leeds, will run at 9.14am.
A number of afternoon journeys will be retimed to run between five and ten minutes later.
Consultation meetings were held in the area so people could give their views on current bus services. First says hundreds of people gave their views on what they would like to see from their future bus network.
Brandon Jones, head of communications for First in West Yorkshire, said: “This is a new and exciting journey for First in the Otley, Ilkley and Skipton areas.
“We have enjoyed listening to the views of hundreds of our customers and we have used this feedback to make a number of key changes to the X84 service.
“Our aim is to grow the number of people using First buses in the area and we believe that by listening to what our customers and the local communities say then we are in a stronger position to achieve this in the future.
He added: “In September we made changes to our fares structure to allow a majority of our West Yorkshire tickets to be extended to allow continued travel into North Yorkshire. This offers great value for money for customers and details are on our website.”
Craven College said many students travel some distance to study, and the addition X84 bus with the extended route was “much appreciated”.
