Yorkshire Wolds outdoor fun for Westville House pupils
7:00am Sunday 20th October 2013 in Local news
Children in Year 6 at Westville House in Ilkley enjoyed a fantastic experience away from home on a three-day course at the Cranedale Centre in the Yorkshire Wolds.
They took part in team building activities, rock pooling at Flamborough Head and investigating the ecology of rivers.
The course was made even more fun by using games to help the children learn how animals adapt and survive in nature.
In the evening, the learning did not stop and they discovered how to search for bats using bat detectors and how to walk through country trails in darkness, with only their class friends to support them.
Christian Adamthwaite, deputy head teacher, said: “This was, for many of the children, the first time they have stayed away from home on their own.
“This trip develops and educates the children in so many ways and is a positive and unforgettable experience.”
