Otley councillor fears loss of town’s green fields

Plans to create new housing on the edge of Otley would contribute to the loss of the town’s green fields.
That is the ward councillors’ first reaction to outline proposals to create a residential development and access road on land off East Busk Lane.
The scheme would involve demolishing old sheds on the site, on Otley’s eastern outskirts, to make way for the new properties.
Councillor Colin Campbell said: “The ward members would not support this type of piecemeal development, which nibbles away at the green fields around Otley.
“The proposal would be detrimental to the area and take little account of the impact of the traffic the site would generate, and its impact on East Busk Lane.
“We also feel it is premature in that the old Unitary Development Plan precluded this type of development, and the consultation process on its replacement, the Local Development Framework, has just started.”
