Ilkley MP’s praise for David Cameron’s speech
2:38pm Thursday 3rd October 2013 in Local news
Prime Minister David Cameron makes his keynote speech on the final day of the Conservative Party Conference at Manchester Central in Manchester.
Ilkley MP Kris Hopkins has described David Cameron’s speech to Conservative Party Conference in Manchester yesterday as “optimistic, realistic and forward-looking.”
Mr Hopkins commented: “There were no half-baked ideas aimed at grabbing short-term newspaper headlines. Instead, we heard a realistic analysis of the challenges we face as the Conservative-led Government continues the job of clearing up the financial mess left behind by Labour.
“There were also many positive and optimistic words as we look ahead to a much brighter future and the creation of a land of opportunity for all.
“The PM’s restatement of the importance of a good education for all our young people was very welcome, as was his rightful, strong praise for social workers in recognition of the vital role they play in our community.
“I was particularly pleased to hear his acknowledgment that this country has indeed been ‘too London-centric for far too long’ and that the new North-South high-speed rail link must be built for the benefit of the nation as a whole.”
