New rector of Bolton Priory installed at service
10:00am Sunday 29th September 2013 in Local news
A gloriously sunny early autumn day was the setting for the installation of the Rev Simon Cowling as the new Rector of Bolton Priory.
More than 300 people filled the church, the congregation being joined by many visitors from Sheffield where Simon was previously Precentor at the Cathedral.
Such were the numbers attending the event, that a shuttle bus service ran from Bolton Abbey village car park down to the Priory.
The service was led by the Bishop of Bradford, the Rt Rev Nick Baines, and the Rev Cowling was presented to the Bishop by the Priory's Patron, the Duke of Devonshire.
In his address, Bishop Nick described how much he liked coming to this part of Wharfedale, and was grateful that his grandchildren gave him the excuse to visit and enjoy Hesketh Farm Park.
The proceedings concluded with a well-attended afternoon tea in the village hall, providing the opportunity to meet the new Rector and his family, the Bishop and the Duke.
Mr Cowling's first Sunday services at which he will preside will be this Sunday, at 8am and 10.30am.
