Call to fight huge development plan in Bramhope
9:00am Friday 20th September 2013 in Local news
A planning bombshell has been dropped on Bramhope with a proposal to build hundreds of homes in the village.
Now local people are being urged to join forces to fight the scheme for 380 houses, a small retail unit and a country park on Breary Lane.
Developers Miller Homes are inviting the public to a consultation on Tuesday, October 1, before submitting an outline planning application.
Adel and Wharfedale councillor Barry Anderson is vowing to fight the application all the way and he is urging others to join him.
He said: “I do genuinely think that this is premature, bringing this site forward at this stage.
“We have just been through the site allocation consultation. No decisions have been made yet.
He added: “When the UDP was approved in 2005 the inspector felt that part of this land could be used for development – but it was never stated that it should be used.
“If it is to go ahead then we have got real problems with the infrastructure.”
He stressed that if the fight was lost and the scheme was approved the council had to make sure there were benefits for the village, such as improvements to the A660. And he said hundreds of new homes would have an impact on local services such as schools.
Coun Anderson said more notice should have been given for the consultation meeting, which is to take place in less than two weeks. The proposals are expected to come as a shock to many in Bramhope.
Coun Anderson stressed: “We have got to fight this with everything we have got. We have got to work together to stop this development in its tracks.”
A public consultation and drop in session will take place in the clubroom of West Park Leeds RUFC, The Sycamores, Bramhope, on Tuesday, October 1, between 4pm and 7pm.
Agents for the developer are planning to write to local residents and the parish council to inform them of the consultation.
