Ilkley woman is giving her hair the chop for charity
9:00am Wednesday 18th September 2013 in Local news
An Ilkley woman who has been growing her hair for ten years is preparing to cut it.
Charity worker 32-year-old Jude Hamon will also go one step further and shave her head.
Not only will she raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care and Christians Against Poverty through sponsorship but she will also give away all her hair to be made into free wigs for children with cancer who have lost their own hair.
Jude, whose glossy locks are 80cm long and her pride and joy, said: “When my friend was diagnosed with cancer a few years ago and went through the process of losing his hair I realised I couldn’t cope with losing mine.
“I knew it would knock my self-confidence completely so I started thinking about how to conquer my fear and help others in the process.
“I knew I could give my hair away so that cancer patients could be given free real-hair wigs but I also wanted to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care and the charity I work for, Christians Against Poverty.”
Jude’s haircut and headshave will take place at the hair salon Red in Ilkley on Monday. To sponsor Jude go to justgiving.com/judeisshavingoffallherhair or justgiving.com/judeisshavingoffallherhairforCAP.
