Depute PM welcomes Otley apprentice Connor to Parliament
9:00am Friday 13th September 2013 in Local news
An Otley apprentice and his supervisor have been welcomed to Parliament by the Deputy Prime Minister and their local MP.
Connor Wilsden, from Craftsman Tools, and training officer Graham Newall met Nick Clegg and Greg Mulholland MP (Lib Dem, Leeds North West) at Westminster last Wednesday.
Their visit was part of a pro-apprenticeship event that saw Liberal Democrat members in the House of Commons and House of Lords invite apprentices and their employers along for the day.
The Otley visitors met Mr Mulholland and Mr Clegg, who hosted the event, before going on a tour of Parliament and also gave their feedback on how the Government could help with in-work training.
Marketing executive at engineering tools manufacturer Craftsman Tools, Nicola Sykes, said: “We are delighted to have been invited to the Apprentice Day in Parliament.
“Through our in-house apprentice training programme, we are committed to bringing the next generation of engineers into manufacturing and events like this are great for highlighting the importance of such apprenticeships, not only for the engineering sector but the country as a whole.”
Mr Mulholland said: “This was a brilliant and really successful day.”
