Lord Mayor of Bradford opens new hospice charity shop
8:00am Friday 13th September 2013 in Local news
The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Khadim Hussain, officially opened Martin House Children’s Hospice new charity shop in Brook Street, Ilkley on Friday.
Coun Hussain was joined by shop manager, Gill Newsome, and the hospice’s mascot Marty Bear for the opening. All of the money raised from the shop goes to support the children’s hospice, in Boston Spa near Wetherby, which relies almost entirely on donations and fundraising to raise over £4.9 million a year, allowing them to provide vital care and support for local children and their families.
Gill’s husband, Richard Newsome is currently backpacking across through a desert in aid of Martin House and she urged people to support him.
She said: “Richard is completing a solo backpacking trek through the Mojave Preserve California, expecting to cover 140 miles in seven days in temperatures in excess of 105 degrees. I am keeping my fingers crossed for him and so proud. Please support him by visiting his just giving page: justgiving.com/Richard-Newsome247. Thankyou.”
Gill, of Ilkley, added: “We also need volunteers and stock so please do come along and support the shop.”
Donations of clothing, books, household items can be dropped into shop during opening hours.
