Sunny success of Bolton Abbey fete
9:00pm Thursday 29th August 2013 in Local news
Glorious sunshine brought crowds flocking to Bolton Abbey Fete on Monday.
The event – the 11th to be held – is expected to have raised £6,000 for the Priory Church.
This year’s proceedings were opened by 91-year-old Edmund Butler, of Deerstones, who has had a long association with the church.
“It was a great success,” said one of the organisers, Colin Crabtree. “The sun shone from dawn to dusk and I think ice-cream sales will have been at an all-time record.”
The event was staged on the lawn in front of Bolton Hall by permission of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, who were among the fete-goers.
“It really looked a picture and there were a lot of happy, smiling faces about,” added Mr Crabtree.
Attractions included music from Otley Brass Band, children’s races, stalls and teas in the gardens.
