A talk about the Yorkshire dialect – and its historical roots – will be given at Otley Courthouse next month.
Tyke Talk, presented by Otley Word Feast, takes place from 11.30am to 12.30pm on Saturday, August 3, will look at the influence of Celtic ancestors and Viking settlers on the regional accent.
The event, led by Prince Henry’s Grammar School teacher Chris Smith, will also explore the origins of the names we know local landmarks, like Otley Chevin.
Tickets cost £2, children £1, and are available from the venue, by visiting otleycourthouse.org.uk, or by calling (01943) 467466.
