The Amnesty International Wharfedale Group raised almost £100 by selling books, cards and cakes at a table-top sale at Christchurch, Ilkley, on Saturday.

The group would like to thank all those who supported its stall and the Rotary Club of Ilkley Wharfedale for organising it.

A number of people signed an Amnesty International petition calling on the UK Government to address the endemic problem of fear and abuse of women and girls in Afghanistan.

The organisation says 87 per cent of women in Afghanistan have direct experience of physical violence.

From domestic abuse to very public attacks on women standing up for their rights in the public eye, violence is simply a fact of life for women in Afghanistan. Visit amnesty.org.uk for more information.

The Amnesty International Wharfedale Group will hold its annual meeting on April 11, at 7.45pm, in the coffee shop, Christchurch, The Grove, Ilkley.

Everybody is welcome. The group will also have a stall at the Otley Green Fair, April 13 10am to 4pm, Otley Courthouse.
