Friends of High Royds Memorial Garden in spruce-up
4:00pm Monday 18th March 2013 in Local news
A memorial garden restored to honour the memory of 2,861 patients at a former psychiatric hospital is getting a spring spruce-up.
The Friends of High Royds Memorial Garden are using a grant from the Northern Horticultural Society to make further improvements to the plot, at Buckle Lane, Menston, over coming months.
Chairman Ron Sweeney said: “Work will commence shortly to improve the soil and flowerbeds, so we look forward to further developing an even more colourful and peaceful garden.
“Once this is done we will of course have to maintain the work by regular weeding etc, so if anyone wishes to help in keeping the flower beds neat and tidy please let us know.”
Anyone interested in helping can contact Mr Sweeney by sending an e-mail to ron@windmillcentre.co. uk.
Since opening in the summer of 2011, the garden has twice been highly commended by Yorkshire in Bloom.
