Teams are being sought for an annual golf competition that has raised thousands of pounds for cancer charities.
This year’s Joan Glendinning Charity Golf Day, at Otley Golf Club, is on Wednesday, September 11.
The event has been running for six years and was founded by local businessman John Glendinning in memory of his wife and keen golfer, Joan, who died of throat cancer in 2006, aged 58.
It has raised nearly £30,000 for various charities, and the 2013 event will once again benefit the Teenage Cancer Trust, which was also supported in 2011 and 2012 and has received £7,000 to date.
Mr Glendinning, with his son Paul, stages the event with the backing of friends and clients from family-run firm the JM Glendinning Group, at Guiseley.
He said: “Our thanks go to all those who have religiously supported the day, either by entering a team or providing prizes, cash, or gifts for the auction.
“We hope that we can continue to provide an entertaining day for the entrants, and raise further monies for charity.”
The Teenage Cancer Trust’s regional fundraiser, Abby Batchelor, said: “We are extremely grateful for John and Paul’s support, through the Joan Glendinning Charity Golf Day, over the last two years.
“Money raised will go towards the upkeep of the two Trust units in Leeds, as well as providing emotional support to young people and educating them, and health professionals, about cancer to ensure a swift diagnosis and referral to specialist support.”
Fourteen teams took part in the 2012 competition, which was won by J M Glendinning Financial Services Ltd, and the organisers are hoping to attract even more this time.
