A schoolboy table tennis ace from Bramhope is to represent West Yorkshire in the national finals.
Shayan Siraj will represent his county after winning the U13 title in the West Yorkshire Schools Individual Table Tennis Championships.
At just 11 years of age, Shayan is already punching above his weight in the U13 age group, and he took on a player with a higher national ranking to seal the title.
His proud dad Waseem said: “The first game in the best of five final was won by his opponent 11-9 and Shayan was under pressure, but as his father and coach I know that’s when he is at his most dangerous.
He won the next game 11-3 in front of an excited audience by raising his game to a higher level with some attacking and exciting table tennis. Once ahead he kept the pressure on to win the next two games.”
Shayan, who goes to the Grammar School at Leeds, will represent West Yorkshire at the National Finals in Doncaster in April.
